Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Naples & Fort Myers Renters and Sellers
Published October 9, 2026 · Westgate Cleaning Services
Why move-out cleaning is different
A move-out clean isn't a tidier version of regular cleaning — it's a full empty-home reset. Every cabinet is open, every closet is bare, and every surface that furniture used to hide is suddenly visible. For renters, the condition of the property often decides how much of a deposit comes back. For sellers, a clean handover keeps closing day simple.
Kitchen and bathrooms: where inspections look first
Kitchens: clean inside and outside of all appliances, empty and wipe every cabinet and drawer, degrease the stovetop area, and scrub the sink and fixtures until they shine. Don't forget behind and beneath appliances if they move.
Bathrooms: scrub and sanitize every surface — tub, shower, tile, toilet, vanity, mirrors, and fixtures. Soap scum and hard-water marks are common in Southwest Florida and are exactly what an inspector's eye finds first.
Living spaces, bedrooms, and the forgotten spots
Throughout the home: dust ceiling fans, blinds, vents, and baseboards; wipe doors, handles, and light switches; clean interior windows and sliding glass doors; and vacuum and mop every floor, including closets. Patch-check the walls for marks and scuffs.
The most commonly missed items: inside the oven and refrigerator, window tracks, the tops of door frames, and garage or lanai floors if they're part of the property.
